Raggy Powell

In association with Eastcott Community Centre, twenty children worked alongside Suzie Simmons to create a collage of James ‘Raggy’ Powell, who gifted the land on which the current community centre currently stands. James lived in Swindon at the time of the 1871 census and worked as a licensed broker who bought and sold used rags, timber and general waste material; a rag and bone man, an occupation that earned him the nickname Raggy.

Using  sharp scissors, the children cut and pasted material to recreate a portrait of Raggy which will displayed at the Swindon Art Gallery and Museum.
