Sport Relief
The aim of Sport relief is to raise money whilst participating in sporting activities. This year Sport Relief, is being used to tackle critical issues affecting people across the UK and the world such as:
supporting those living with mental health issues
providing lifesaving maternal healthcare for mothers and babies to prevent death
ending malaria-a major killer in some areas of the world.
Each day of Sport Relief Week, the children took part in a different 3-minute challenge:
Monday – Football goal challenge.
Tuesday - Beanbag throw challenge.
Wednesday – Hockey dribble challenge.
Thursday – Running challenge.
Friday-Dance/Fitness challenge.
Points were earned for their house teams.
Throughout the week, children donated money for participating in these events and we were aiming to raise £250.
At the end of the week the points were added up and houses were placed as follows:
1st place: Diamonds with 787 points
2nd place: Emeralds with 737 points
3rd place: Sapphires with 726 points
4th place: Rubies with 684 points
On the Thursday, armed with our sparkling red baton, 3 children and Mrs Clarke, ran to Lethbridge Primary School as part of Swindon Schools ‘school to school relay.’
In the afternoon, we joined 40 other schools for a run/jog around four laps of the County Ground running track.
To finish the week, the whole school enthusiastically joined in with a 30-minute fun fitness dance session led by Commonweal students.
As well as full involvement by all staff and children the children, staff (with only a little arm twisting!) have also risen to the challenge of representing KWS in a range of sporting activities. Special mention to Mrs Clarke for completing a 20-mile cycle ride, Mrs Summers for 1 hour aerobics and Mrs Plested for a 5km run.
The aim of Sport Relief is to raise money whilst participating in sporting activities and our end goal was to raise £250. A huge thank you to those of you have given donations-together we raised £266.67.
