British Values Day

St George's day was the perfect time to explore the British Values of

  • Democracy.
  • Rule of law.
  • Individual liberty.
  • Mutual respect.
  • Tolerance of those of different faiths (or those of no faith).

The day began with an assembly led by Mrs Kendall which introduced everyone to the values. Each class then spent the morning exploring one of the values and the afternoon drawing a self portrait with adjectives to describe their 'special individual' qualities around the edge.

Tiger class learnt about ‘Individual Liberty’ by exploring colour-what a colour sounds, smells and tastes like and how that colour makes you feel. This was summarised in a colour poem.

Puffin class also learnt about ‘Individual Liberty’ by recording what is the same and different about each other in partners. They then wrote a letter of advice to Rainbow fish about his own behaviour, sharing and making friends.

Panda class learnt about ‘Tolerance and Respect’ by exploring pictures to discuss differences and then write a letter of apology.

Polar Bear class learnt about ‘Mutual Tolerance and Respect’ for diversity by writing instructions about ‘How to welcome someone new’.

Zebra class researched ‘Democracy’ and then wrote speeches  ‘If I was Prime Minister….’ The speeches were presented to the class, a secret ballot was cast and the winner and runner up announced.

Olivia and Bea were declared 'Prime Minister' for the Cooperative Party and Nicholas and Sarvesh were voted runner's up.

Good Morning Britain

Today we will talk about how we might make a few adjustments for the best of us.

Firstly, I think it is right to talk about plastic;it is certain that 300 million tonnes is produced a year, which is far too much for our planet. For example, you'll be able to buy bamboo plastic or a metal water bottle from good local shops. (To just change a little bit.) For our next law we would replace diesel cars to chargeable ones. In this situation, they are more expensive but this will go to a good cause. Besides, if you have a diesel car we will give you 50% off your new one when you trade it in.

Now, moving on, I will talk about deforestation. 20% of the world oxygen comes from just one rainforest, its the Amazon. To solve this problem we are going to create tree farms! It may seem ridiculous but it will stop the devastation of wild trees. This next change is major. We want to end hunting. But wait! All you hunters out there;before you object we are creating borders between wild and bred animal forests so you can ask for the landlords permission to hunt for meat and fur.

We are so thankful that you all waited patiently for us to explain all of our changes. Please vote for us. 'We will change your lives!'

Leopard class focused on the United Nation Rights of the Child by exploring the 45 rights of the child and then made leaflets made to distribute to parents of school.

During the afternoon, Blue Whale and Tiger class decorated biscuits. They then gave a biscuit to every child in the school.
