Archibald's War

A production by Zebra and Leopard classes.

'It was 1939' said Grandma. 'The war was just starting so us children were being evacuated.'

The children waited at the station for the train to arrive. 'Now stick together children and follow me,' shouted the teacher.

As the children boarded the train, their mums cried. 'My Edith's never been away from me before, not even one night.'

On the journey, the children squeezed into one carriage. 'Everyone all right in here?' asked the Guard.

Waiting on the platform for the evacuees were some villagers. 'Goodness me, this is so exciting.'

Mr Price impatiently picks the Baxters.

'I'll take this one.'

After a long day, the Guard arrives home with a teddy bear he found on the train. 'I thought you might like him, Jack.'

In the village, the local boys wish they could have a go kart.

Ernie builds one but unfortunately, as he whizzes down a hill, he crashes and the bits of the go kart fly everywhere.

Meanwhile back in London, the bombs start to drop as neighbours head to the air raid shelter for safety. 'Did you bring those sandwiches?'

As the drone of the bombers can be heard overhead, a bomb explodes. 'Looks like we are going to be here all night.'

Across the country, everyone tunes in to the wireless for Children's Hour.

Today was a message from Princess Elizabeth. 'I'm wishing you all 'good evening'.

In the countryside, the evacuees were preparing to Dig for Victory.

Before long, the GI's arrived on the scene and declared there would be a Christmas party.

But of course, without any jitterbugging.

Maggie notices her teddy bear and clutches it tight. Jack grabs hold of the bear as the two children argue over who it belongs to.
